What's the biggest mistake web designers make in building an online website business identity? They miserably fail in
selecting and utilizing keyword-rich domain names as a website marketing advantage. The question is... do
you want to sell your Internet products or services, or do you want to sell your
business?
As an example and to explain this better, lets say we own a shoe company named Clarkston Shoe Inc. What do most web masters and designers choose as their domain name? More often than not they'll select something like clarkstonshoeinc.com.

Now think about it. What is the most important keyword in this domain name selection? Clarkston? Shoe? Inc? Clarkston could be the name of our owner. Or Clarkston could be the name of our city. Now, how about Inc? Absolutely no value there, Duh? So why use it in our domain name? No one gives one hoot or a howler if our Internet web business is incorporated while typing in their keywords, especially search engines- and in fact Inc. is a total waste of needless, no-value characters in a domain name. Needless to say, the same thing applies with Company or Co.
Now back to the keyword Clarkston. Who on the World Wide Web is ever going to type in Clarkstonshoeinc.com or Clarkston Shoe Inc. when searching for shoes?
Answer: Only our customers who already know Clarkston Shoe Inc. exists. So why bother purchasing a domain name, where the vast majority of Internet users will never access it? Makes entirely no sense at all, does it?
Remember, Internet search engine users are most accustomed to typing in the keywords for what it is they're looking for. So now what?
So far the keyword "Shoes" is our ticket here! We've successfully found our first significant domain name keyword. However, the keyword "Shoes" obviously is not enough. Shoes.com has already been chosen, and perhaps quite a few million other websites with the keyword "Shoes".
We now have to dig deeper into keyword/s to accommodate "shoes". Shoes and what? Well now it's time to look at our sales inventory. Besides Men's shoes, Women's shoes, Children shoes, boots, sandals- what else do we sell? What is our biggest selling item/s next to shoes? We sell handbags too! Anything else? Sure! We sell accessories. The more you think about it, the more the ideas come to you. We sell shoes and loads of handbags.
Hey, I think we're on to something. First, lets use the keyword shoes. (Because, basically that's what we're all about) Next, lets use the keyword handbags. (Because we sell a whole lot of these too) And finally, lets use accessories. (Because accessories can apply to more than just shoes and/or handbags) Wha-La! There you have it. Put the three keyword rich names together (shoes, handbags and accessories) and check to see if the domain name is available.
